Taxi Antics |
We had a bit of fun yesterday. We got in a taxi to go to the antenatal clinic, but the driver didn't speak any English. All we had in Chinese on the appointment card was 'antenatal service'. The guy read that, looked at Helen's bump and said 'Tuen Mun Hospital!' several times very excitedly in Chinese. We finally got him to take us to the right clinic but he seemed certain Helen was about to give birth.
He also had an amusing piece of paper tied to the back of the front seat informing us of a rise of price in taxi costs. We've seen this a few times, in taxis that haven't had their meter updated since the city-wide price increase. But it doesn't just say 'please pay $1 extra'; instead it lists out every possible fare, with the corresponding $1 increase price next to it.
It covers a whole two sides of A4. So, in case you hadn't quite got the picture by reading 200 examples of the $1 increase, you can read more on the back.
On the second side the list goes up to $480. I'm not quite sure whether you can make a journey that far in HK, but would those who can afford such a journey really care about paying an extra dollar? Apparently so.
At least no-one can say they haven't been clear.Labels: Baby, taxi |

i've wondered about those fare increase charts too, and didn't even realize there was another side! a sign with "+$1" would just be too easy...

Oh it's so true! I saw this list for the first time in a taxi last Friday! I did a double and triple take to make sure that each of the amounts listed was increasing by the same $1 increment. Amazing. Very thorough. But seriously...did they need to list every possible fare?!
