World Cup IX: England v Trinidad & Laura's walk |
Laura, my sister has been doing a sponsored walk to raise money for her trip to work with Crossroads in Hong Kong over the last few weeks. Let me know if you want to sponsor her!
I decided to join her for one leg, but had to cut it a bit short as I haven't been feeling that great this week. Nikki, a friend from Oxford, bravely joined us for the walk, despite being given no advance warning! We walked from our house to a village called Bredhurst, then on into some nearby fields and woods before looping back to Bredhurst, stopping at the Bell for refreshments. Laura and Helen then continued on to Maidstone, while Nikki and I, and Maude the dog, stayed for lunch in the Bell. We were stunned when we went to order food at 2:32, to be told that lunch stopped at 2:30 and the couldn't serve us anything!
It seems pub food is quite hard to find in the Kentish countryside after 2:30. There was nothing else in walking distance, so we ended up having to take Maude home and then drive to two other places before getting our lunch. By that time it was so late in the afternoon that we ended up watching the England v Trinidad match in the pub. I was pleased in the end because England one AND I got to eat Yorkshire pudding! |
