Birthdays
It was our Birthday earlier this month, on the 1st. It feels funny to talk about 'our Birthday', but as we share the same birthday it is 'ours'. Helen gave me a U2 Live in Chicago DVD, which I was rather pleased with :)
While having a flick through the U2 website I came across the 'Sweetest Thing' video. One of my favourite music videos, in the words of this page :
"The Sweetest Thing" has so much heart that it's difficult to ignore. The video is brilliant from the opening moments when Ali Hewson steps into a handsome cab. For a lead singer infamous for mugging to the cameras, Bono saves some of his best facial expressions for this video. The background is repeatedly entertaining, as well..."
The above version is the original, the one below has a whole heap of popup facts about the video. It explains why Bono wrote the song - he forgot his wife's birthday while recording the Joshua Tree in 1987, and wrote this to apologise - a pretty cool way of saying sorry! And Bono even takes his hat and glasses off to show how sincere he is.
its pretty cool isnt it? :) I didn't realise this version had all those popup facts on it (I wondered how you knew Bono had forgotten her birthday!). The popups are great for learning about the video (like I didn't know they got the REAL riverdance people!) but they kind of detract from it too. I'll see if i can find a plain one too....
Glad you like the new blog format. We went through a bit of a re-vamp last week. To be honest, it was more because I fiddled with the old one so much that the code was a mess and was no longer displaying properly! So we had to start afresh. But I'm much happier with the new one. Nice and simple and yet 'vibrant', as Neville described it.
You're pretty quick with your comment - we only put this up last night!
Very cool video! Actually I got here after you reposted the original so watched that first and did spot a number of the comments the Pop up video made. I love the idea of video annotation. Not seen one before but it certainly helped explain the video a lot more and I feel like I understand the song so much better now :o)
That is the coolest vid! How sweet, and funny, and zany! At least you'll never forget Helen's birthday and have to make up for it like Bono did!
By the way, like the new blog format/style :)
