Forgotten disasters |
I've been thinking a lot about 'forgotten disasters' this week. If you're not familiar with this term, here's a bit of background...
Disasters such as the Tsunami, Hurricane Katrina and the India/Pakistan Earthquake were heavily covered by international news networks such as CNN, BBC, ABC, etc. Sadly, there are a number of disasters that kill, injure or make homeless significantly more people than the more well-known disasters, that hardly get a mention in the media.
These are often described by aid agencies that care about them as 'forgotten disasters'. Many of these disasters have been going on for a while, but have just slipped off the radar, because the situations have not changed enough to make them 'newsworthy'.
Here are a few links to 'stories the world should hear more about'.
