Hong Kong Slum Survivor |
The charity that we work for, Crossroads International, held the second ever Hong Kong Slum Survivor last weekend. Part of the life experience program that Helen helps run, this fund-raising event was a 24 hour simulation for CEOs and other community leaders from Hong Kong, who experienced what its like to live in a slum.
During the day, after building their slum hut and braving a night of mosquitos and humidity, the participants endure a number of simulations. Mike was helping out with the refugee run, one of the more intense experiences. "A simulation obstacle course confronting participants with soldiers, guns, mine fields, and border crossings.." (the link above shows a photo of the simulation camp, which happens to include Helen, looking very deep in thought.)
On Sunday, Helen is heading off to spend a week with a school, helping run a number of simulation games. Should be a pretty huge week for her, but at the same time it's an awesome privilege that we get to give people a real glimpse of what poverty is like. |
