Coral in Hong Kong!
We've been a little quiet on the blogging front as we've had a few visitors recently. We've had Mike's sister Helen to visit for the last 3 weeks, and then Mike's Dad for 2 weeks before that, so we've been busy showing them around HK and China.

We had great fun taking Dad into ZhaoQing in China, a small Chinese town of about 5 million people. We climbed limestone mountains, journeyed around the giant lake, climbed the city wall and viewed the city from a revolving restaurant at the top of the city's highest building (where we met a guy called 'Blue Sky!). But I'm sure Dad'll never forget the bus journey, complete with a meal stop half way with multiple local dishes served at tables in a restaurant (a bit different to the UK's National Express stopping at the Road Chef for a Mars bar and a coffee!). We won't mention his rather poorly neighbour on the bus!

As Mike's sister had been here before and seen most of the usual tourist places, we opted to take her to a few new places. These included visiting a Russian restaurant complete with minus 15 degree freezer, watching an award winning German movie ('One day in Europe' which we definitely recommend!) and swimming over coral. Yes, Hong Kong has coral beds accessible without a boat!

Hoi Ha Wan is near to Sai Kung (take the number 7 green minibus from Sai Kung bus terminus), and you can hire snorkels and mask for $15. A short walk around the bay (amusingly also called Jones Cove - Helen's maiden name :) took us to a jetty, and from there we right above the coral as soon as we stepped in the water. We didn't have an underwater camera, but the WWF have some pics from the same bay, which look just like the coral we saw.

Here's some of the coolest coral we saw:

Amazing tropical fish swimming around too. We'll definitely go again sometime.

Now we have just over a week til our next visitors, Helen's parents, arrive for a month.

Wow! No boats or anything? We've got to try that sometime.

We'll let you know when we next head out there. You can hire boats from Sai Kung, and see other coral areas, but only certain boats are allowed in this bay. The only boat we saw was the one speeding around checking to make sure other boats weren't speeding around (somewhat ironic).

I'm sad I never got a chance to check out the wonders of Sai Kung. Thanks for the story!
